SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – On Saturday, Oct. 10, the Edgar May Health and Recreation Center and Springfield Hospital continued the tradition of determining the Fastest Kids in Town as part of the Vermont Apple Festival at Riverside Middle School. Each year, this fun, free race is held for youth ages 5-12 throughout the region to promote movement and exercise.

This year, 38 runners tested their abilities and speed in a 100- or 200-yard dash. The top finishers were Vincent Hartmann and Madaline Badore in the 5-6 years age group; Shamus Joyce and Adalynn Greene in 7-8 years; Jackson Tomberg and Lexi Bruno in 9-10 years; and Eli Merced and Natalie Harvey in 11-12 years.

The first place winners in each category received a medal for their achievement, and all registered runners received a T-shirt. This year, Lulu’s Street Dogs from Londonderry donated a free hot dog to every Fastest Kid in Town participant. The husband and wife team, who are also parents themselves, said they loved that the event encouraged youth to exercise, spend time outdoors, and engage with their peers.
