
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Over the weekend of Aug. 1 and 2, the Edgar May Health and Recreation Center Stingrays youth swim team won Division 5 at the Vermont State Meet, held at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction.
The following swimmers achieved top-10 finishes: Jocelyn Maslan-Shaal, 10, of Springfield, in the 25-yard backstroke; Nizhoni Trahan, 11, of Bellows Falls, in the 200-yard freestyle; Nora Waters, 11, of Perkinsville, in the 100-yard backstroke; Janey Whipple, 14, of Springfield, in the 100-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly, and 100-yard individual medley (IM); Lizzy Warren, 14, of Springfield, in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle; Roxcy Cammock, 14, of Windsor, in the 100-yard backstroke; Ella Pelletier, 14, of Chester, in the 100-yard butterfly; Mollee Thurston, 15, of Bellows Falls, in the 50-yard breaststroke, 100-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard IM; Jasper Maslan, 6, of Springfield, in the 25-yard freestyle and 25-yard backstroke; Ethan Ring, 8, of Weathersfield, in the 25-yard backstroke, 50-yard freestyle, and 25-yard breaststroke; and Dean Long, 14, of Peru, in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly; as well as the 10-and-under mixed freestyle relay of Ethan Ring, Ben Gardner, 8, of Charlestown, N.H., Aquinna Allen, 9, of Chester, and Evita Pelletier, 9, of Chester.
“I’m so proud of how we swam at states,” says Stingrays head coach Julia Lamb. “Everyone posted at least one best time, and most dropped significant time in multiple events. We came together as a team, had fun, and swam fast.”
