SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – The Student of the Month program of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks recognizes young men and women for achievements in school and community life, hobbies, athletics, club, and community service. The Springfield Elks Lodge is pleased to recognize Tobias “Tobi” Emerson, a freshman at Springfield High School, as the Elks Student of the Month for February.

Tobi, who is the son of Kelly Emerson, of Springfield, is incredibly kind and caring, a trait you don’t tend to notice first in most ninth grade boys. He greets everyone with a smile, and will engage with anyone in the room, especially if the topic is art or music.

Emerson is an skilled artist. You can often find him sketching in his numerous sketchbooks, and encouraging others to draw with him, or to give him ideas of what to draw. He is currently working on cocreating an entire comic with one of his friends, all on their own time, basing the original story on classical Greek mythology, which requires a lot of research. Tobi already knows he want to attend art school upon graduating high school and major in fine arts.

Emerson did very well academically in his first semester as a high schooler, earning a place on the honor roll. The transition to high school can be a tough one for a lot of students, but he rocked it, balancing school with his art and junior varsity soccer.

Emerson’s academics, combined with his kindness, sense of humor, and engagement with those around him make him the perfect candidate for Student of the Month. We are pleased to honor Emerson with the February Student of the Month award.
