Kurn Hattin Home honors local veterans

WESTMINSTER, Vt. – Kurn Hattin Home and School for Children welcomed local veterans to campus on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 11, for its annual Veterans Day celebration, an event filled with heartfelt tributes, uplifting music, and meaningful connections across generations.

The celebration featured a performance by the Kurn Hattin Band and Chorus, who presented a spirited lineup of patriotic songs. The audience was invited to join in a joyful singalong to close out the program. Children and staff also offered thoughtful readings and presentations, honoring the values of service, sacrifice, and gratitude.

Adding a personal touch, students lined the campus road with colorful handmade signs, and delivered custom cards to each veteran in attendance, small gestures that made a big impression.

Guest speaker Vermont State Rep. Mike Mrowicki offered reflections on citizenship, unity, and the importance of giving back. Following the program, veterans were invited to enjoy a special lunch with the children and staff, a warm and lively gathering that sparked laughter and conversations.

“This event is always one of the most meaningful of the year,” said Sue Kessler, executive director of Kurn Hattin. “It gives our children a chance to express gratitude, learn from the experiences of others, and connect with the values that shape strong communities.”

One staff member summed it up best, saying, “Today was beautiful. Guests were moved by the ceremony, and by the warmth of our students. I felt so proud to be part of this community.”

Kurn Hattin extends heartfelt thanks to all who have served, and to everyone who helped make this day of remembrance and appreciation so special.
