Fletcher Memorial library summer reading program

LUDLOW, Vt. – Fletcher Memorial Library in Ludlow is thrilled to launch its 2026 summer reading program, “UnEarth A Story,” a six‑week celebration of dinosaurs, discovery, and digging into the past. Running from June 22 – July 31, this year’s program invites infants, children, teens, and adults to explore stories that connect us to history, the natural world, and our own imaginations.

The library will offer a full calendar of free events, hands-on activities, and reading challenges designed to keep families learning and engaged all summer long.

Each Wednesday, the library will host Wacky Wednesday STEM programs, featuring interactive science programming. The schedule is as follows: July 15, from 2-3 p.m., “Clover Explorations” and “Giant Magnetic Tile Engineering”; July 22, from 1-2 p.m., “Tales to Tails with Sailor the Therapy Dog”; and July 29, from 1:30-2:30 p.m., Wonderfeet Museum presents “Rock‑n‑Roll: Exploring Weathering & Erosion.”

The following family‑friendly Fun Friday performances will be held on the following Fridays, from from 1-2 p.m.: July 17, “Fizzical Fairytales: Finding Rhymes and Diggy Digs”; July 24, “Captain Aquatics: Fins & Scales,” featuring live reptiles and amphibians at the library; and July 31, Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) with author Steve Swinburne. All children attending the CLiF event will receive two free books to take home.

Throughout the program, families can also enjoy weekly themed crafts; weekly outdoor story time on Wednesdays, from 10:30-11 a.m.; a movie matinee; colonial games and fun; an outdoor concert; and additional activities connected to this year’s dinosaur theme.

Families may register online at www.fmlnews.org/youth or by visiting the library. Participants receive a reading log or bingo card and are encouraged to read throughout the summer. The more they read, the more raffle tickets they earn for chances to win exciting prizes.

This year also features a special Recycle-a-Saurus Challenge, inviting participants to create a dinosaur using only recycled materials. Instructions are available online and at the library.
