BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – Bellows Falls Union High School (BFUHS) and the Bellows Falls Elks Lodge 1619 are pleased to announce that Haven Harty has been selected as the school’s Elks Student of the Month for February. Haven is the daughter of Tim and Shelby Harty, of Westminster, Vt.

The Elks Student of the Month program recognizes students who demonstrate excellence in academic effort, attitude, attendance, contribution to school life, and contribution to community life. Harty was selected for exemplifying these qualities through her dedication to her studies, leadership within the school community, and commitment to helping others.

In the classroom, Harty consistently demonstrates strong academic effort and thoughtful engagement. She contributes insightful perspectives during class discussions, and shows compassion and respect for the viewpoints of others. Teachers describe Harty as a student who is always willing to help both peers and staff, and who serves as a positive role model for others.

“Haven goes above and beyond when given an opportunity or task,” one teacher shared. “She is an active participant and community member both at BFUHS and within the larger WNESU [Windham Northeast Supervisory Union] community.” Another teacher added, “Haven is a student I look forward to seeing every day. She brings a positive presence to the classroom and lifts up those around her with her humor, authenticity, and thoughtful leadership.”

Harty is actively involved in school life as a member of student council and the athletic council, and she serves as an announcer for varsity boys and girls basketball games. She also participates in indoor track and outdoor track, and was a significant contributor to the BFUHS state championship field hockey team. In addition, Harty has represented Bellows Falls Union High School for the past two years at the Vermont State Athletic Directors Association Student-Athlete Leadership Conference, where student-athletes from across Vermont participate in leadership workshops, hear from guest speakers, and collaborate on ways to strengthen athletic programs and enhance the student-athlete experience within their schools.

Beyond school, Harty is committed to supporting younger athletes and community programs. She volunteers as a coach for the Rockingham Recreation Youth Field Hockey Program, and assists the Bellows Falls Middle School field hockey program with games and practices, helping mentor and encourage the next generation of student-athletes.

Bellows Falls Union High School and the Bellows Falls Elks Lodge 1619 congratulate Harty on this well-deserved honor. Her positive attitude, leadership within the school community, involvement in student organizations and athletics, and commitment to supporting younger athletes in the community reflect the values recognized by the Elks Student of the Month program.
