CHESTER, Vt. – Students from Green Mountain Union High School’s creative arts class are making a lasting contribution to the community through a special public art project that celebrates the beauty of Vermont throughout the year.
Under the guidance of art teacher Marcia Dockum, students were invited to create paintings depicting Vermont’s four seasons for display in the Chester Town Hall. The project challenged students to select and paint scenes that capture the unique landscapes, colors, and character of Vermont during spring, summer, fall, and winter.
The students participating in the town hall project include Laura Bennett, Dylan Welwood, Gunnar Lichensteiger, and Harleigh Burns. Their artwork will be permanently displayed in the halls of the town hall, where residents and visitors will be able to enjoy their creative interpretations of Vermont’s natural beauty for years to come.
In addition to the town hall exhibit, another group of creative arts students completed paintings that will be featured on the covers of electrical boxes located on the town Green. Students Sarah Birmingham, Isadoria Gibson, Mackenzie Koch, and Amaris Seville created exterior paintings inspired by Vermont’s four seasons, transforming everyday utility boxes into colorful works of public art.
The community art projects provide students with an opportunity to share their talents beyond the classroom, while helping beautify public spaces. Through their creativity and dedication, these young artists have contributed meaningful works that celebrate both the landscape and spirit of Vermont.
“Public art allows students to see how their work can positively impact their community,” said Dockum. “These projects gave students the chance to create something that will be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, while developing their artistic skills and confidence.”
The completed installations showcase the talent of Green Mountain Union High School students and serve as a reminder of the important role the arts play in building community connections. Their artwork will stand as a lasting legacy, reflecting the beauty of Vermont and the creativity of its young artists.
