ATHENS, Vt. – The Athens Historic Preservation Society, along with the Athens Brick Meetinghouse Committee, is hosting a “Conversation with the Candidates” at the 1817 Brick Meetinghouse on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 4, at 2:30 p.m.
The Windsor-Windham District serves the towns of Athens, Grafton, Windham, and Chester. The candidates for this state representative seat are incumbent Republican Rep. Tom Charlton and Democratic challenger Will Hoser. Both candidates have accepted the invitation.
This will be a bit less formal than a typical forum. There will be time at both the start and the end of the event for attendees to mingle with the candidates either inside the meetinghouse or outside on the meetinghouse common over cider and donuts.
For the bulk of time between that, the forum will move indoors to the sanctuary space, where, for no more than an hour, a moderator will ask prepared questions of both candidates along with written questions submitted by attendees. The prepared questions will not be shared in advance, but will touch upon issues that are important to constituents of the Windsor-Windham District, along with the legislature’s capacity to address them.
The organizations are excited to be reviving the history of the 1817 Brick Meetinghouse as a place where prominent speakers addressed the public on civic matters of import. The Athens Brick Meetinghouse is on the National Register of Historic sites, and is located at 2 Meetinghouse Road in Athens, Vt.
