SoVerA presents Astronomy for Children

REGION – Please join SoVerA on Tuesday, July 8, at 7 p.m., for a presentation by Smith College professor Meg Thatcher. This will be an online meeting at www.zoom.us/j/94691230307.

Thatcher has written for youngsters ages 5 and up, for 12 years. She has written 30 articles for publications such as Ask, Odyssey, Muse, Cricket, Cobbblestone, and Highlights. She has also written six books for kids of all ages in the past five years, including “Sky Gazing: A Guide to the Moon, Sun, Planets, Stars, Eclipses, and Constellations,” and “Cool, Cosmic Tattoo Stars and Planets.” Her other books are for the educational market.

Thatcher teaches astronomy, physics, and writing at Smith College, and has been the academic director for Smith’s summer series and engineering program. She has studied collisional ring galaxies and asymptotic giant branch stars, as well as helping develop the Two Micron All Sky Survey using 1.3-meter telescopes at Mt. Hopkins and CTIO in Chile, and three-channel cameras.
