LONDONDERRY, Vt. – As a result of a new Exercise is Medicine Community Wellness Grant by the Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness & Sports, Neighborhood Connections is able to offer a brand new, limited program to help seniors learn the basics of snowshoeing at Viking Nordic Ski Center in Londonderry, at no cost to participants.
Outings start and end at Viking Nordic, 615 Little Pond Road in Londonderry, and will take place on four Fridays: Feb. 20, Feb. 27, March 6, and March 13, weather permitting, from 12-3 p.m. About half of that time is a professionally guided walk on 1.5-mile trails. Specific trails will be chosen based on the abilities and interests of the group. The remainder of the time is meant to get you fitted and set up in snowshoes (provided free), and to give you time for coffee, soup, or a sandwich at the ski shop afterwards. Restrooms are available. You may sign up for one, several, or all four sessions.
This is the perfect way to get your exercise while unable to engage in normal walking activities due to icy conditions, and to learn a new activity.
Each session is limited to 12 individuals, so please reserve a spot early by calling 802-824-4343. Liability releases will need to be signed at your first session. If in doubt that this program is appropriate for you, check with your medical provider.
