BROWNSVILLE , Vt. – The countdown is on for the Lucy Mac 5K9 on Saturday, Sept. 12. The 5K9 is more than a race; it is a chance to meet up with other dog lovers and enjoy the wonderful trails of Ascutney Outdoors, all while supporting the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society’s animals.
The Lucy Mac 5K9 is held on the trails at Ascutney Outdoors and is one of Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society’s largest fundraising events of the year. This year’s event is even more special as Lucy Mackenzie celebrates 111 years of serving animals and people in the community. The Lucy Mac 5K9 offers both a timed 5K route and a one-mile option. Runners and walkers can participate solo or as a team and enjoy the thrilling and beautiful trails of Mount Ascutney, all in support of the animals at Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society. As always, dogs are welcome to join in on the fun.
In honor of Lucy Mackenzie’s 111th anniversary, every participant that raises at least $111 will receive a free 2026 5K9 T-shirt. All participants completing the 5K9 will receive a custom Lucy Mac 5K9 medal.
Check-in and registration will be from 9-10 a.m., at the Ascutney Outdoors Center, located at 449 Ski Tow Road, Brownsville, Vt. The one-mile race will kick off at 10 a.m., and the 5K race will start at 10:30 a.m.
Participants will be treated to a scenic Vermont adventure as they race along handcrafted trails located on the western base of Mount Ascutney. The 5K trail will lead participants across fields, over streams, and through the woods before they finish winding down the ski slopes of the mountain. Views from the course are sure to be spectacular. For those not quite up to the full 5K trail, there is also a fantastic one-mile course which is just as much fun.
