
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Richard “Dick” L. Hurd of Springfield, Vt., passed away on Oct. 19, 2023, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y., with his family at his side.
Dick was born on Oct. 7, 1942, in Springfield, Vt., to the late Harry Hurd and Lizzie Irene (Davis) Hurd. He was a graduate of Springfield High School, Class of 1961. He married Mary Lou Smolnik on June 18, 1961.
Dick was a self-employed upholsterer since 1970. His hobbies included singing with the Springfield Community Choir, participating in theatrical productions with the Springfield Community Players, and his antique cars and motorcycle. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, singing in the choir and working on church projects.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his two brothers Charlie Hurd and Paul Hurd. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Smolnik) Hurd; children Martha Hurd of Albuquerque, N.M., Bernice Clark of Springfield, Vt., and Thomas Hurd of East Hartland, Conn. He has five grandchildren, Samuel Clark, Joshua Clark, Carole Clark, Katharine Hurd, and Benjamin Hurd. Great-grandchildren are Gloria Clark and Alistair Clark.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, the Springfield Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 245 Main Street, Springfield, Vt., on Oct 28, at 1 p.m.
