Peter Chamberlain, 1935-2025

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. – Peter B. Chamberlain was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Hartford, Conn., to Theodore Franklin Chamberlain and Hazel Baird Chamberlain. His family soon relocated to Westminster, Vt., where he was brought up, graduating from Bellows Falls High School and Clark University in Worcester, Mass., where he met his wife of 63 years, Merrilee Jackson Chamberlain.

Following graduation, he served his country in the Air Force, Air National Guard of Massachusetts, and Air National Guard of New York. He began a 36-year career with Travelers Insurance Company in Worcester, Mass., working in nine different locations, in positions of increasing responsibility, concluding his career as president of Bankers & Shippers Insurance Company (a Travelers subsidiary) in Burlington, N.C., from 1988-1994.

He and his wife retired to Amelia Island, Fla., in 1994, after having vacationed there since 1982. They always welcomed visiting family and friends with open arms.

He was predeceased by his parents and wife. He is survived by his two sons Kirk Chamberlain (Ginnie), of Columbus, Ga., and Tod Chamberlain (Nancy), of Suffield, Conn.; grandchildren Kristin Chamberlain, of Columbus, Ga., Michele Kaufman (Justin), of Wilmington, Mass., Holly Rigby (Joseph), of Sudbury, Mass., Mandy Chamberlain, of Suffield, Conn., and Keith Chamberlain, of Melrose, Mass.; and six great-grandchildren Benjamin, Sophia, and Emelia Kaufman, and William, Chase, and Brooke Rigby.

The family will celebrate his life at a later date.
