Merleen A. Wilder, 1951-2026

S. LONDONDERRY, Vt. – Merleen Ann Wilder, 75, of South Londonderry, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 19, 2026. Merleen, or “Mert,” as she was lovingly known, was born Feb. 11, 1951, at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend, to the late Lawrence and Helen (Bendig) Wilder. She attended Londonderry-area schools and was a 1969 graduate of Leland and Gray Seminary in Townshend. Over the years she worked at the Peabody House, Adams Market, Derry Town Market, and the Londonderry Inn, before venturing into the world of self-employment as a house cleaner. Her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy, and she was always excited to share stories about her grandchildren with her friends. She was also an avid animal lover, being a caregiver to several pets over the years.

Merleen was loved by all who knew her and became friends with everyone she met. Her warm and friendly spirit and positive outlook on life, even while battling cancer, resonated with every person who had the privilege of meeting her. The world was most certainly a brighter place with her presence, and her loss will be felt by all who loved her.

Merleen was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Robert and David; and her best friend and companion of 45 years, Wendell Johnson. She is survived by her daughters, Tracy Danforth (William), of Canaan, N.H., and Dawn Massey (Glenn), of Andover, Vt.; her son, Matthew Wilder, of Brattleboro, Vt.; her six beloved grandchildren, Isaiah and Ethan Danforth, Owen and Brodie Massey, and Lucas and Emma Peeters; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Londonderry Volunteer Rescue Squad or Neighborhood Connections. Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield will be handling the arrangements. Per Merleen’s wishes, there will be no services.
