Max E. Emery Jr., 1939-2026

WEATHERSFIELD, Vt. – Max E. Emery Jr., 86, of Weathersfield, Vt., died in his home on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026. He was born to Max and Bernice (Higgins) Emery on April 30, 1939, in Springfield, Vt.

Max served four years in the Vermont National Guard, and worked as a machinist for Lovejoy’s until his retirement. He married Joyce King, and they enjoyed 65 years together.

He enjoyed many things, especially working with his hands. He ran Merlin’s Machine Works Machine Shop in his basement for many years. He loved woodworking, making furniture for his own home and his neighbors. In Max’s younger years, he and his dad would go logging in the woods with their horses. He was also a lifelong member of the NRA, and was a competitive shooter.

Max is survived by his wife, his children Julie Pawlikowski (Ted) and Dale Emery, his siblings Robert Emery (Audrey) and Nancy Davall (Charles), and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his beloved cat Misty Rose.

He is predeceased by his parents, his son Max Alan Emery, and his brother Richard Emery.

A Celebration of Life and burial will be announced and held at a later date.

Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vt., is assisting with the arrangements.
