LUDLOW, Vt. – Helena Rose Massey, 70, died May 17, 2026, at her home in Ludlow, Vt. She was born Oct. 15, 1955, in Pittsfield, Mass., the daughter of Thomas C. “Neil” and Margaret (Murray) McGarry. She lived in and attended schools in Pittsfield, Stockbridge, North Adams, and Hyannis, Mass., graduating from Barnstable High School, Class of 1973, North Adams State College with a Bachelor of Arts, and Western New England College School of Law with Juris Doctor in 1984.
Helena passed the bar exam in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Vermont, all on the first try, and held law licenses in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Helena was an administrative assistant with the Law Firm of Melvin Fink P.C. in Ludlow, Vt., for several years.
She is survived by her loving husband Roger James “Jim” Massey; her nine siblings, Frances McGarry (Dimitrios Erotokritakis), Margaret McGarry, J. Allen McGarry (Diane), Mary McGarry-Newman (Doug), Katherine McGarry (Keith Ganz), Neil J. McGarry, Elizabeth (McGarry) Sheehan (Jay), Patricia (McGarry) Lawyer (Aresh), and Edward J. McGarry; nine nieces; eight nephews; 21 cousins; her lifelong friend Peggy (Hall) Laurie (Steve); and many dear friends.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vt., is assisting with arrangements.
