CHESTER, Vt. – George Andrew Spence passed away at his home in Chester, Vt., on Wednesday, May 14, due to kidney failure. He was born in Springfield, Ill., the son of Jack and Mary Spence. Although born in the Midwest, George found his true home in Vermont, where he was endlessly inspired by its mountains, lakes, and quiet beauty.
A passionate outdoorsman, he loved canoeing, hiking, and the loyal companionship of dogs. His deep affection for animals – especially dogs – was a defining part of his life. He formed strong, lasting bonds with every four-legged friend he met, most especially his two beloved companions Toby and Riley.
George studied photography at the New School in New York City, and went on to become a talented freelance photographer specializing in nature and architectural imagery. His work reflected a profound appreciation for light, form, and the natural world.
In addition to his photographic pursuits, George had a lifelong fascination with the stars. He was an avid amateur astronomer, often spending peaceful nights capturing the night sky through astrophotography, using software to bring distant constellations and celestial wonders into focus.
He is survived by his father Jack, his stepmother Arjaleena, the Singh and Young families, and his dogs Toby and Riley. George can rest in peace knowing that Toby and Riley have found warm, caring homes. He will be deeply missed.
