SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Frederick H. Amidon Sr., of Springfield, Vt., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, at his home, following a brief illness. He was born on June 6, 1933, to Walter and Marie Amidon. Fred married Barbara I. Pockette on May 18, 1957, and they had many happy years together until his passing.
Fred was born in Rutland, Vt., and graduated from Rutland High School. He was an avid outdoorsman, and particularly enjoyed hiking the Long Trail and fly fishing.
After graduation, he joined the Marine Corps. He was most proud of his service, achieving the rank of gunnery sergeant and serving in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Barbara, four children, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are with Davis Memorial Chapel, 99 Summer Street, Springfield, Vt. A graveside service will be held in the spring, and announced at a later date.
