
BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – Charles E. Hamel passed away peacefully surrounded his family on Aug. 17, 2026, at the Sterling House in Bellows Falls, Vt.
He was born in Montpelier, Vt., on July 7, 1933, the son of Edward Crosby Hamel and Florence M. McGill, of Montpelier, Vt.
After graduating high school in 1951, Charles went into the U.S. Air Force as a communications expert and sergeant airman first class.
After the Air Force, Charles met and married the love of his life, Ann Dolores Romano. They were married on June 3, 1961. Together they had three daughters, Victoria Marie Shangraw, of Bellows Falls, Jennie Drumand, of Bellows Falls, and Valarie Janowski, of Springfield. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Charles worked at Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield, where he retired after 32 years. Charles’ passions were gardening, art, skating, and music. The love of his life was his family.
A graveside service took place on Aug. 29, 2026, at 10 a.m., at St. Charles Cemetery in Westminster. A reception was held in the downstairs of the Moose following the service.
The family would like to thank the Sterling House staff for all of the love and kindness they showed to Charles.
