REGION – Chief Deputy Claude Weyant, of the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, recently announced the department’s new position of countywide resource deputy. Deputy Jackson Howe, along with K-9 Kye, will serve in this important position. Howe is a dedicated family man and a dedicated law enforcement officer. Howe started his law enforcement career in Orange County. He began his time in Windsor County in early 2023. Earlier this month, Howe and Kye attended the annual statewide K-9 association ball. They received an award for their work and dedication to the communities they serve.
Howe will work closely with area schools, and will do his best to be a role model mentoring the youth. He will be available to help educate students on the legal system, crime and drug prevention, conflict resolution, safety, and other relevant topics.
Howe will also work with communities on crime prevention, and will work with citizens and businesses to help them know the best ways to secure their properties. He will also work with the senior citizens in the county in different ways to make sure they are safe, in addition to producing a program where seniors living alone can be checked on each day. Howe will help seniors learn how to be safe and avoid being victims of crime.
Howe will foster trust between communities and the sheriff’s department. He will focus in the 14 towns with which the department contracts. He will also be available to help in larger towns throughout the county that have their own police departments, if asked by their respective police departments.
Weyant stated that this position is something he has always wanted to see at the sheriff’s department.
