LONDONDERRY, Vt. – Casey Junker Bailey, Flood Brook School’s retired art teacher, is delighted to announce a variety of art opportunities for kids this summer in Londonderry. These opportunities are open to children of all ages who are living in or visiting the area.
The fun begins on June 14, with a free art program at the South Londonderry Free Library, at 10:30 a.m. Learn about the artist Henri Matisse, make colorful collages, and receive a free book, thanks to a generous grant from the Stratton Foundation. The program is appropriate for all ages.
Starting on July 5 and running through Aug. 9, there will be art making for all ages, including adults, at the Custer Sharp House, on Middletown Road in Londonderry. The free open art studio, run by local artists, will take place every Saturday, from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Visit the farmers market, then pop into the studio for some creative fun. You can view some great exhibits while you’re there.
From July 7-11, Bev Foster, a beloved local teacher and artist, will be offering “Exploring the Arts at the Custer Sharp House,” daily from 1-3:30 p.m., for ages 6 and up. The cost for the week includes all materials and a simple snack. Contact Foster for information and registration at missbev1958@gmail.com.
Also in July, the South Londonderry Free Library will offer “Ablaze with Color,” an arts workshop with Bailey, featuring artist Alma Thomas. The free program is on Friday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m. Children will make paintings inspired by the artist, and will receive a free copy of the book, thanks to a grant from the Stratton Foundation.
On Aug. 4-8, Bailey will be offering her popular “Art with the Masters” class for kids ages 6 and up, from 1-3:30 daily. The class will meet in the Custer Sharp House studio, on Middletown Road in Londonderry. In this week-long class, students will explore a variety of materials, and make paintings, drawings, and sculpture inspired by famous artists. The cost for the week includes all materials and a simple snack. The class will conclude with a celebratory art show for family and friends.
