Star gazing with SoVerA

PERKINSVILLE, Vt. – Join the Southern Vermont Astronomy Group (SoVerA) on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m., for an evening of star gazing, weather permitting, at Hoisington Field in Perkinsville, Vt., adjacent to the 1879 Schoolhouse, 1862 Vermont Route 106, Perkinsville, Vt. All SoVerA monthly meetings are free and open to the public.

Evenings in October can be chilly, so warm shoes and hat are recommended. Also, a comfortable folding chair helps make the time more pleasant. If you have a telescope, you are welcome to bring it. If you would like some guidance in the use of your telescope, SoVerA members can help you to enjoy nighttime viewing.

Please note: When you pull into the parking lot, please position your car so that your headlights do not shine onto the field where telescopes are set up.

If the weather does not cooperate, SoVerA will host a 7 p.m. meeting featuring Jon McCann from DarkSky Vermont, who will discuss DarkSky’s work. The meeting will be held virtually at  www.zoom.us/j/94691230307.

McCann, chapter lead for DarkSky Vermont, is a resident of Mount Holly, Vt., known for his work with the Two Rivers Supervisory Union and as a volunteer firefighter for the Mount Holly Volunteer Fire Department. He is also active with the Mount Holly Conservation Trust.

SoVerA’s website is currently unavailable. SoVerA is aware of the problem and is working to fix it. Those interested can get up-to-date information on SoVerA’s FaceBook page or Slack channel.
