SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – For those feeling challenged with changes in technology, individual tech help sessions will be held on Monday, Oct. 2, 9, 23, and 30, at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. A small group class, “An Introduction to Keeping Safe Online,” will be held on Monday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. This class will focus on basic precautions to take with your devices and data. “Freedom to Read” also means “Freedom to View.” The library will be showing movies from Monday, Oct. 2, to Friday, Oct. 5, that are based on books that were targeted for censorship as part of Banned Books Week. Movies will be shown on the 85-inch screen TV in the young adult area of the library. While the movie license does not allow publicizing the titles in the newspaper, they are listed on the events page of the library’s website, www.springfieldtownlibrary.org.
Children’s Preschool Story Time will start up again at the library on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m., with the theme “playing with food.” Themes for other Tuesdays in October can be found on the library’s website, or by calling the library. Registration is not required for story time. Activities for school-aged youth are also being held. “Spoon Catapults” will be on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m., and “Share a Spooky Story” will be on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. Library staff is interested in determining the best dates and times to host youth programs. Please provide input.
Readers and writers have opportunities to gather. Scribble Society meets on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 5:30 p.m. There are book clubs on Friday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m., and Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 12 p.m. Short story readers gather for the Page Turners group on the second and fourth Fridays each moth, at 10:30 a.m., unless preempted by a holiday.
Library staff will be joining in the fun at the Apple Festival on Saturday, Oct. 7, in the cafeteria at Riverside Middle School. Youth Services Librarian Jeni Clary will present a story time at 10 a.m. Opportunities to create an apple-themed craft, make a button, or sign up for a library card will be available.
Ben, from Claremont Spice & Dry Goods, will be at the library on Monday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m., to speak about “Culinary Herbs and Spices from Thyme Immemorial to the Present.” Expect to hear about the cultural evolution of a selection of culinary herbs and sample goat cheese. Sign up is required, as seating is limited. This class will fill up very quickly.
