SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Services at the Springfield Post office were suspended on Aug. 22, due to “safety concerns,” according to a letter sent to Springfield residents by the United States Postal Service. The letter also stated that the suspension “is not tantamount to a discontinuance, but rather is intended to give Postal Service management the ability to evaluate potential solutions.” No prospective reopening date was given.
Those with P.O. boxes at the Springfield Post Office will instead pick up their mail at the North Springfield Post Office, 365 Giddings Street. Lobby hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.; and Saturday, 7:30-11 a.m. Window service hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., and 2:30-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 8:30-11 a.m.
In addition to the post office in North Springfield, those receiving a notice from their carrier will have to pick up their mail at the Ascutney Post Office, 5159 Route 5. The lobby hours at this post office are Monday-Friday, 6 a.m. – 7 p.m.; and Saturday, 6 a.m. – 3 p.m. Window service hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., and 1:30-4:45 p.m.; and Saturday, 8:30-11 a.m.
These post offices are the closest available post offices for those wishing to send packages or perform other retail services.
