REGION – Sarasa Music proudly presents the opening concert set of its 2026-2027 concert series, “Singing Allowed!,” with a special program delving into music manuscripts rediscovered from a forgotten cabinet in the Dresden Court Church after remaining hidden for 100 years. Featuring the “winning singing and youthful bearing” (New York Times) of rising star tenor Richard Pittsinger, the concert includes a wide range of choice works by Händel, Vivaldi, Lully, Campra, Locatelli, and Telemann and Pisendel. Additionally, Sarasa will present a world premiere by New York City-based composer Rebecca Scout Nelson. Sarasa will present “Schrank II ~ Cabinet II” at three public performances, as well as to incarcerated teens at Massachusetts Department of Youth Services facilities as part of Sarasa’s award-winning Music Unlocked program.
Co-Artistic Director Jennifer Morsches says of the concert, “We are excited to open our 2026-27 season with a program that weaves a connecting thread of music from the golden age of 18th-century Dresden, Germany – performing a treasure trove of Baroque works from a forgotten cabinet with the sublime young tenor Richard Pittsinger – alongside a newly commissioned work by Rebecca Scout Nelson, who grew up in the former East Germany in the town of Gera, not far from Dresden. Rebecca’s piece gives a nod to the region’s deep Lutheran roots, including texts by the 20th-century German author Christa Wolf, who lived under the shadows of Nazism and Communism. It is especially profound to realize that, 65 years ago, on Aug. 13, the Berlin Wall was erected in order to divide a nation of people. With those events and the current challenges facing the world today resonating in the back of our minds, ‘Schrank II ~ Cabinet II’ is a poignant start to a musical season that invites audiences to stand up and raise their voices aloud in our aptly named series, ‘Singing Allowed!’”
Performances of “Schrank II ~ Cabinet II” will be held on Friday, Sept.18, at 7 p.m., at Brattleboro Music Center in Brattleboro, Vt. (tickets at www.bmcvt.org); on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m., at Friends Meeting House in Cambridge, Vt. and on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 3:30 p.m., at Follen Church in Lexington, Vt.
