BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – River Artisans Cooperative has work from a new members in its shop on Main Street in Bellows Falls. Emily joined the co-op last spring, adding a beautiful range of items to the store.

Emily makes exceptionally lovely knitted hats and gloves. The soft colors of naturally dyed yarns make each piece unique with detailed patterns. Emily works only with wool, and much of it comes from Green Mountain Spinnery. Some of her yarns are dyed with natural plant materials. These are the kind of handcrafted items which you treasure for a lifetime.

Emily began knitting at age 7. Her great-grandmother would knit tiny outfits for her Strawberry Shortcake doll, and also taught her to knit, which she did throughout her childhood. After the birth of her first child, Emily began to knit again, and now it’s a daily practice for her. River Artisans Cooperative is the only shop where her work is available, and is so glad she is part of the cooperative.

Abby makes unusual art using vintage and antique jewelry framed with vintage picture frames. Her work is the ultimate in upcyling, as she takes small elements of jewelry which would otherwise be discarded and forms designs from them. She is also using a technique of fluid paint to decorate pins, vases, and small containers.

While she has always done a variety of crafts, since retiring she has moved full time to Chester, where she used to visit on vacation. She particularly enjoys making something new out of something old. Abby participates in farmers markets and fairs, as well as having her work in the cooperative shop in Bellows Falls.
