MERIDEN, N.H. – The Upper Valley Business Alliance (UVBA) is thrilled to announce that Poor Thom’s Tavern in Meriden, N.H., has officially been crowned the winner of the 2026 Upper Valley Burger Battle. Their fan-favorite Rise and Shine Burger took home the top prize in a highly competitive field.
This year’s battle featured 13 unique burgers from across the region, with nearly 1,000 votes cast by residents and visitors. While the competition was fierce, Poor Thom’s Rise and Shine captured the hearts and appetites of the community.
Beyond the “dedication to deliciousness,” the Burger Battle serves a vital role in the UVBA’s mission of economic development. Designed to boost foot traffic during a traditionally slower time of year, the event proved to be a significant win for the local hospitality industry.
“This event is about more than just a great meal; it’s a tool for economic growth,” said Morgan Brophy, president of the UVBA. “Most participating restaurants reported a measurable increase in burger sales, and, more importantly, the contest successfully brought new customers through their doors. It’s a celebration of our creative economy and the community spirit that defines the Upper Valley.”
The 2026 Burger Battle was generously sponsored by Casella, whose support helped make this regional celebration possible.
Poor Thom’s Tavern, opened in 2016 by Thom Lappin, has long been a community staple. Often voted a top restaurant by Valley News readers, this latest accolade adds to their legacy of being a go-to spot for both a full meal and a great story.
