SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Springfield Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is pleased to announce its fall 2026 programs. The first program, on Tuesday, Sept. 15, will be about Ira Allen and the Green Mountain Frontier, presented by Vermont historian Kevin Graffagnino.
Registration is now open, and you can register online at www.learn.uvm.edu/olli/springfield. You must preregister and prepay to attend. Registration and payment cannot be accepted at the event. You can preregister now for the full series as a member. Beginning Aug. 25 and continuing throughout the semester, you may register for individual programs if you wish to choose only certain ones to attend.
OLLI is run by local volunteers who believe in providing interesting educational and cultural programs to the community. Springfield OLLI is in its 23rd year and has continued to grow in popularity over the years. It serves the greater Springfield area, with members coming from a wide area encompassing southern Vermont and New Hampshire. It is a nationwide program which provides learning “for the fun of it” at an affordable price for older adults. Vermont’s OLLI is supported by the University of Vermont. The group meets on Tuesdays, at 2 p.m., at the Nolin Murray Center in Springfield.

On Sept. 28, Nadine Budbill will discuss her father’s legacy with “The Poetry of a Place and its People: David Budbill’s ‘Judevine.’”
On Oct. 13, “Eyes to the Sky” with Candace Hess, co-sponsored by the Ascutney Mountain Audubon Society, will highlight hawk-watcher volunteers in California and a look at the local Putney Mountain hawk-watchers.
On Oct. 27, Garrett Graff, historian and journalist, will discuss “The Midterm Elections and Beyond: America’s Path Forward.”
On Nov. 17, Ethan Tapper, forester and ecologist, will discuss “The Forest Year” and give an in-depth look at his new book by that title.
On Dec. 1, Mark Breen will return for his 15th annual presentation to the group as “The Singing Weatherman,” combining his passion for meteorology and music by presenting his collection of songs about the weather.
