LUDLOW, Vt. – The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Okemo Valley Women’s Club will participate in this year’s GFWC International Day of Service on Saturday, Sept. 26. The International Day of Service (IDS) is one day in which the whole GFWC comes together in service to highlight an area of need, take action to address it, and raise public awareness of its importance. Again this year, the GFWC IDS is dedicated in its purpose to help end sexual and domestic violence.
Globally and in the United States, sexual and intimate partner violence impacts a vast portion of the population, affecting roughly one in three women in their lifetimes. Relationship abuse is ugly and terrifying, especially when it comes from the people we love. The more informed we keep ourselves and others, the more prepared we will be to recognize and stop abuse when it happens.
The Okemo Valley Women’s Club will hold a drive to collect essential personal care items for Vermont shelters which serve survivors and victims in our local areas. The club will be collecting personal care items such as shampoo, body wash, soap, deodorant, and toothpaste, and will also accept cash donations for purchases of gas and grocery cards for adults in shelters.
The drive will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., at the Shaw’s Plaza in Ludlow.
