BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – Bellows Falls Union High School (BFUHS), in partnership with Bellows Falls Elks Lodge 1619, is pleased to announce Grace Hayes as the Elks Student of the Month for November 2025. Grace is the daughter of Ken and Sarah Hayes, of Rockingham, Vt. This recognition honors Hayes’ academic excellence, outstanding character, leadership, and meaningful contributions to both school and community life.
Hayes’ nomination was a joint effort among several of her teachers, who praised her strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to mastering her coursework. She consistently seeks a deeper understanding of the material, demonstrating focus, responsibility, and a readiness to challenge herself – qualities that set a high standard for her peers.
Her teachers describe her as calm, respectful, and exceptionally kind, noting her ability to bring positivity into every space she enters. Grace’s warm demeanor, reliability, and consistent attendance make her a valued member of the BFUHS community. She contributes thoughtful insights in class, works well with others, and often steps into leadership roles with natural ease and maturity. A recent example illustrating her compassion occurred during a school field trip, where Hayes spent the entire day supporting a peer in need, unprompted and with genuine care.
In addition to her academic strengths, Grace is a dedicated three-sport varsity athlete, whose commitment extends across all seasons. She recently completed an impressive season as a key member of the girls varsity soccer team, where she played a pivotal role in the program’s success. Her leadership, determination, and competitive drive were evident throughout the fall season, leaving a strong impression on teammates and coaches alike. During the winter, she participates in ice hockey for Hartford High School through the member-to-member program, bringing her athleticism and team-first attitude to yet another arena. In the spring, she continues her commitment as a significant contributor to the varsity softball team, demonstrating consistency, sportsmanship, and a strong work ethic. Beyond her athletic achievements, Hayes is an active member of the athletic council, helping promote school spirit, sportsmanship initiatives, and student-athlete leadership across BFUHS.
Hayes’ contributions extend well beyond athletics and academics. She frequently volunteers for school and community events, including helping with grounds cleanup at BFUHS, and participating in activities with younger students at Central Elementary School. Her willingness to step forward, and her genuine desire to help others speak strongly to her character and integrity.
“Grace is an exceptional young woman who enriches every community she is part of,” one teacher shared. “Her kindness is genuine, her leadership is natural, and her dedication to academics, athletics, and service is truly inspiring.”
