Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center names chief medical officer

WINDSOR, Vt. – Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center (MAHHC), a member of Dartmouth Health, has announced the appointment of Dr. Catherine A. Schneider as chief medical officer. Schneider has been the section chief of surgical services at MAHHC since 2016, and of anesthesia services since 2021. She previously served as the chief medical officer of MAHHC from 2011-2014, and she first joined MAHHC as a general surgeon in 2008.

“Dr. Schneider has long been a trusted physician leader at MAHHC, and I am delighted to continue working alongside her in her new role,” said Dr. Matthew R. Foster, CEO and president of MAHHC and Valley Regional Hospital. “Her leadership and deep commitment to our patients and staff make her an invaluable part of our team.”

Schneider has also worked as a general surgeon at Dartmouth Health members New London Hospital, Valley Regional Hospital, and Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital (APD). From 2005-2007, she served as the medical staff president at APD.

Schneider received her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where she also served as a research fellow, general surgery resident, and administrative chief surgical resident. She later completed a fellowship at the Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery, and earned a Master of Science in management from New England College.

In addition, Schneider is a fellow and Vermont chapter treasurer for the American College of Surgeons and the Vermont delegate to the American Medical Association. She is also a member of the Vermont Medical Society and the New England Surgical Society.

“I am very excited about my new role at Mount Ascutney Hospital. Since joining the medical staff in 2008, I have witnessed many changes in health care,” said Schneider. “As CMO, I will work with my colleagues at Mount Ascutney and within Dartmouth Health to continue to provide outstanding care to our patients. I am looking forward to a close working relationship with Valley Regional Hospital, and their CMO Dr. Juliann Barrett.”
