LUDLOW, Vt. – The Ludlow Volunteer Fire Department invites the community to participate in two upcoming events.
On Saturday, Sept. 5, the department will host the annual 5 Alarm 5K run and walk. The 5K starts from the Ludlow Community Center, 37 Main Street, at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Registration is discounted in advance at www.runsignup.com/Race/VT/Ludlow/LudlowVolunteerFirefightersAssociationAlarm5kRoadRaceWalk. Register prior to Sept. 4 to receive a race T-shirt.
Race-day highlights include trophies for the top three finishers in each age category, a Best Team Costume Award, a postrace cookout, and a DJ spinning music all morning. Additionally, the fire department with the fastest five runners on average will take home the Fire Department Challenge trophy, plus bragging rights, and will have its name engraved for all to see. A second trophy goes to the department that shows up with the biggest crew – runners, walkers, and supporters all count.
Then, on Friday, Sept. 11, the department will host a 9/11 remembrance march and ceremony, beginning at 5 p.m., from the intersection of Pond Street and West Hill Road. The march will proceed to Veterans Park, where there will be a ceremony followed by food.
