LUDLOW, Vt. — Two beloved local traditions are joining forces this autumn for a full day of family fun, community safety, and seasonal festivities. On Saturday, Oct. 3, Ludlow Fire Rescue and the Ludlow Elementary School Parent Teacher Group (PTG) will host a combined, free family fair, Safety Day, and the 42nd annual Ludlow Harvest Fair, spanning across the lawn of the Ludlow Community Center and Expeditionary School at Black River. The joint event brings together hands-on safety education, local artisan shopping, children’s activities, and community fundraising in one central location.
The Ludlow Fire Rescue Safety Day features interactive features for all ages, including: touch-a-truck, explore emergency vehicles up close, including fire trucks and an ambulance; hose line experience, spray a live fire hose attached to an active engine under firefighter supervision; aerial and rope rescue, watch dynamic technical rescue demonstrations utilizing the department’s tower truck; and a live “dollhouse” fire demo, observe a controlled live-burn demonstration highlighting the lifesaving importance of keeping interior doors closed during a fire.
Simultaneously, the Ludlow Elementary School PTG will hold its 42nd annual Harvest Fair. As the PTG’s sole fundraiser of the year, proceeds directly support Ludlow students by funding the school’s winter sports program (skiing and snowboarding), educational assemblies, and playground upgrades, such as the recently completed natural treehouse structure.
Harvest Fair highlights include: seasonal treats, warm apple cider donuts, and the PTG’s famous Stuff-a-Bag bake sale; family activities such as pumpkin painting, craft stations, and bounce houses; and local shopping, featuring more than 40 local crafters, artisans, and food vendors.
Attending visitors can shop a wide variety of handmade crafts, specialty foods, artwork, and local products. Confirmed vendors include the following:
