Dear Editor,
My name is Scott McManus, and I am a resident of Springfield and am also employed by the Springfield School District as a special educator at the high school. I am writing to bring awareness to our cause. Over a year and a half ago, we lost a beloved member of our community named Brendon Snide. Brendon was a brother and son to his family, and a friend to many in the community. Moreover, he was a valued member of our local skate community that spreads across Vermont and abroad. It was when he passed that we decided to start raising money to fix up the Springfield Skate Park in his honor. To leave him a legacy would never take away the pain of losing him, but would allow us to make meaning of this horrific situation.
A year and a few months later, we found ourselves to have reached our goal of $5,000 for the improvements. Contracting with a local skater who owns his own concrete company named Scotty Dixon of Tail Block Concrete LLC, and a couple weeks of hard work and dedication, we found ourselves staring down Brendon Snide’s memorial feature at the skatepark that he grew up skating. It was a beautiful sight to see. We are hoping to go before the selectboard to change the name of the park to “Brendon Snide Memorial Park.” Thank you for your time.
Best,
Scott McManus
