LUDLOW, Vt. – The Ludlow Rotary Club (LRC) is 97 years old, and supports the communities of Ludlow, Cavendish, Mount Holly, and Plymouth. “Service above Self” is the club motto, and is behind the club’s efforts to provide local and regional assistance to area groups and schools, along with the development of national and international projects.
Ludlow Rotary Club holds a special spot in Rotary International history. Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary International, attended Black River Academy in Ludlow and the University of Vermont prior to finishing his education at Princeton University. Harris set up a law practice in Chicago, and formed the Rotary Club of Chicago in 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Over time, Rotary’s reach and vision gradually extended to humanitarian service. Members have a long record of accomplishment, and of addressing challenges in their communities and around the world.
The Ludlow Rotary Club supports education with scholarships and literacy projects, helping local government and charitable programs, involvement with the Rotary International Youth Exchange program, and supporting programs for seniors. Rotary events such as the Chili Cook-off, Penny Sale, and Duck Race fund community needs. Ludlow Rotary supports youth and literacy with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and financial scholarships to graduating high school students of our communities. The Ludlow Rotary Club commits to Rotary International efforts that include work in eliminating polio, helping nations develop clean water projects, supporting a child adoption program in Africa, and assisting countries suffering from floods.
