LONDONDERRY, Vt. – Beavers are builders of dams, lodges, ponds, and wetlands – and pluggers of culverts. The Londonderry Conservation Commission is offering a lively talk about beavers by naturalist and wildlife rehabilitator Patti Smith, of the Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center. She’ll talk about these remarkable animals, how to resolve the conflicts their activities can cause, and how people in some Vermont communities are working to create beaver harmony.
This presentation is for all ages and will include a Q&A session that everyone can join. It will take place on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 5:30 p.m., at the library of the Flood Brook School in Londonderry.
Smith is the author of “The Beavers of Popple’s Pond,” an account of years spent closely observing a colony of beavers in Marlboro, Vt. As a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, Smith has raised many orphaned mammals, including beavers. This program is supported by a grant from the Broad Reach Foundation.
