Learn how to stay safe and confident on your feet

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Join Springfield-area Tai Chi Vermont-certified instructors online or in person from the Great Hall, 100 River Street in Springfield, on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 10-11:30 a.m., to practice healthy, safe ways to move at a fun, free Fall Prevention Awareness Day event, sponsored by Senior Solutions.

Sue Rubel and Jo Bregnard will lead you in a variety of movements: Follow along with qigong fundamental exercises and Fall Prevention Tai Chi (simplified Sun style) as you learn about weight shifting, smart foot placement, and more.

Tai chi is derived from martial arts first practiced in China more than 800 year ago. Over the centuries, various styles of tai chi evolved.

Numerous studies have found that tai chi is one of the best forms of exercise for improving balance and reducing falls. The movements we’ll be playing with are well suited for nearly everyone, as this style is relatively upright and uses smaller steps than other kinds of tai chi. If you’re unable to stand for practice, you can follow along right from your chair and still enjoy the many benefits of practice.

If you attend in person, look for parking on Pearl Street.

For access to the livestream and recording, visit studio.jobregnard.com/product/96106.

Those who register for the online option will get access to the recording. Remember to clear your practice space, wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe and -heel shoes for practice, and have a full water bottle with you.

No prior tai chi experience is required; all are welcome. For answers to specific questions, email Bregnard at jo@jobregnard.com.
