SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – At a recent Springfield Rotary Club meeting, rotarian and town manager Jeff Mobus spoke briefly about the upcoming water and sewer bond votes. The votes will be held Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., at Riverside Middle School. A public informational meeting will be held either Nov. 5, at 6 p.m., or Nov. 17, at 7 p.m., at the town hall.
Article 1 would fund the replacement of existing water lines along Clinton and Main streets. The existing water lines date from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Article 2 would replace sewer lines along Mineral, Main, River, and Wall streets, which have been failing.
The water project will cost $13.5 million, the sewer project just under $2.6 million. Approval of the bond issues will qualify the projects for state subsidies, Mobus said. Rejection of the bond issues will not relieve the town of the responsibility for replacing the lines, but will make the town ineligible for state financial assistance.
The Springfield Rotary Club meets every Tuesday, at 12 p.m., at the SAPCC Workforce Development and Training Center. For more information, visit www.springfieldvtrotary.org.
