ALSTEAD, N.H. – George Harling, of Alstead, passed away on March 24, after a short illness.
He was born in Norwood, Mass., on Oct. 6, 1943, to parents George and Ruth (Wagner) Harling, and raised in New Hampshire, the eldest of six siblings: Jeffery Harling, Merrilou Stanton, Jeralyn Barlow, Lynne D. Harling, and David W. Harling.
George met his wife, Marie (Hatch) in a country line dance at the Keene Singles Club. The moment he met Marie, he knew he found his lifelong mate. They were married in June 1981, and George became a father to Marie’s two children, Linda Thompson and Basil Sargent.
A man with numerous hobbies, his passion was making wooden children’s toys, especially wooden vehicles. He also enjoyed bird-watching, doing jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and playing solitaire.
Additionally, he is survived by four grandchildren, Kim Lopes, Rupert Kenny Thompson, Lianne Thompson, and Aaron Thompson; and four great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Keene Center for their work with George over the last year, with a special acknowledgment to “Auntie Lu.”
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
