WINDHAM, Vt. – On June 12, 2026, Eileen Malumphy Widger, 79, passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord. Born in Pittsfield, Mass., on Sept. 26, 1946, she spent the last 15 years in Windham, Vt., with her devoted husband of 53 years, Tom. Before settling in Vermont, she lived in Burlington, Conn., where she raised her family and built a life rooted in care, faith, and community.
Eileen was a proud graduate of the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing, where she became a registered nurse. She went on to earn both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University School of Nursing. Her long and distinguished career as an APRN in psychiatric-mental health counseling at the Veterans Medical Center in Newington, Conn., touched countless lives. She was deeply committed to her patients, offering compassion, dignity, and understanding to those who needed it most.
In retirement, Eileen embraced the simple joys that filled her days with meaning: reading, gardening, volunteering at church, traveling, and spending time with her beloved dogs, Boston and Bandit. She also dedicated 55 years to the National Ski Patrol at Magic Mountain and Bromley Mountain. In 1988, she was honored with National No. 7030, and, in 2024, she received the Yellow Merit Star, a recognition of excellence, service, and the respect she earned within the ski patrol community.
During her children’s growing years, Eileen was a constant, loving presence – cheering from the sidelines at soccer fields across the state and standing bundled against the winter cold at ski races. Supporting her children wasn’t just something she did; it was one of her greatest joys. She celebrated their passions wholeheartedly, offering pride, encouragement, and unwavering love. She was so proud to become a grandmother, affectionately known as “GiGi.”
She was predeceased by her mother, Beatrice; her father, Francis; and her granddaughters Bridget and Virginia. She leaves behind her loving husband, Tom; her children, Whitney, of Fairfax, Vt., and Drew (Ashley), of Avon, Conn.; and her grandchildren Lincoln and Daphne, who will especially miss her famous blueberry pancakes. She also leaves behind many dear friends made throughout a lifetime of kindness and connection.
Eileen lived a tremendous life of love, family, faith, and service to others. She will be missed by everyone who had the blessing of knowing her.
A celebration of life will be held on Sept. 26, at 11 a.m., at St. Luke’s Church, 313 Main Street in Chester, Vt.
