Dictionaries and the Meaning of “Life” at Springfield Library

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – On Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m., join Michael Metivier, a Windsor resident and editor at Merriam-Webster, for a fascinating look into the world of dictionaries and how they’re made. Using the word “life” as an example, Michael will explore what lexicography is, and what dictionaries can – and can’t – tell us about language.

This engaging talk will also include plenty of time for questions and answers, so come ready with your dictionary-related curiosities.

Metivier is not only a lexicographer, but also a poet, editor, and musician. His writing has appeared in well-known publications like Poetry, Orion, The Kenyon Review, and African American Review. He lives in Windsor with his family.
