WALPOLE, N.H. – On Sept. 19, 60 volunteers came together to clean up the Cheshire County riverways. A big thank-you to the partners who helped make this cleanup a big success: the Cheshire County Conservation District, Keene Conservation Commission, Keene High School, KUUC Outdoors (Keene Unitarian Universalist Church), the Ashuelot River Local Advisory Committee, the City of Keene, Savings Bank of Walpole, Keene State College, and the Keene Lions Club.
Across Swanzey and Keene, volunteers removed more than 1,490 pounds of trash, including three tires, two lawn chairs, a fire extinguisher, an inflatable raft and swim float, a charcoal grill, a dollhouse, and two 2-by-6-foot sheets of plywood. Not included in that final tally, volunteers in Gilsum additionally collected several bags of trash and 45 tires.
These sites included both on-foot and boating locations. Volunteers enjoyed the last bit of warm weather and spent Saturday cleaning local rivers as part of the Connecticut River Conservancy’s regional Source to Sea effort.
Thank you to all partners and volunteers for being part of the regional Source to Sea event and making the 30th year a success. In the Monadnock region, volunteers can join cleanup efforts happening in Keene, Swanzey, and potentially other locations in 2027. Learn more and stay up to date at www.cheshireconservation.org/s2s.
