BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – Members of the Bellows Falls Woman’s Club will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the United Church of Bellows Falls, 8 School Street, beginning at 1:30 p.m.The s guest and speaker for the meeting will be Darlene Remy, president of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of VT (GFWC-VT). She will be outlining her plans for the next biennium.
Since concluding the previous club year in May, a nursing/healthcare scholarship was presented to a graduating student at Fall Mountain Regional High School and at Bellows Falls Union High School. The executive committee met over the summer to plan programs, establish committees, and to formulate the budget.
Members gathered on Sept. 8 for the opening meeting of the club year, under the leadership of co-presidents Brenda Forrest and Julie Sines. Two new members were welcomed. The presenter was Marsha Austin, owner of Halladay’s Flowers and Gifts, demonstrating the art of scarf tying. The annual budget was distributed and, following discussion, it was approved. Plans for events and fundraising were presented. The first fundraiser will be a food and bake sale held in conjunction with the Walpole Library’s annual book sale, to be held at the Walpole School, on Oct. 24. Details will be discussed and finalized at the Oct. 13 meeting.

The club meets on the second Tuesday of each month, September through May, at the United Church, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Programs are varied. Community service is central to the club’s mission.
The local club is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through community service. GFWC-VT’s fall meeting will be held in Ludlow, on Oct. 17.
