American Legion Post 36 to host fundraising dinner for Eric Gilcris

LUDLOW, Vt. — Ballard-Hobart American Legion Post 36 in Ludlow will host a fundraising dinner on Friday, Nov. 13, from 5:30-7 p.m., to benefit Eric Gilcris, a Vermont resident, husband, father, and longtime cancer advocate who is once again battling brain cancer.

In 2011, Gilcris was diagnosed with Grade 4 glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, and given an initial prognosis of just 6-12 months. Defying the odds, Gilcris has survived nearly 15 years and dedicated much of that time to helping others facing cancer.

In 2014, Gilcris and his wife, Anna, founded Cancer Canknot, an organization that has helped raise more than $100,000 for cancer research through charity golf tournaments, fundraising events, and community support.

Sadly, Gilcris’ tumor has returned, and he underwent surgery on Oct. 13. As he and his family face the challenges of additional treatment and recovery, the community is coming together to offer support.

The dinner will feature chicken parmesan, pasta, garlic bread, and dessert. Proceeds will help Eric, Anna, and their family with medical and related expenses.

For years, Gilcris has devoted himself to helping others in their fight against cancer. Now it’s our turn to stand beside him. The public is warmly encouraged to attend and support this worthy cause. For more information or to make reservations, please call 802-228-9807.
