PUTNEY, Vt. – Next Stage Arts invites the community to celebrate the winter solstice with an afternoon of festive activities, creative fun, and joyful singing on Sunday, Dec. 21, from 2-4:30 p.m., at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill in Putney, Vt. The event is free and open to all, and attendees are encouraged to RSVP at www.nextstagearts.org.

This family-friendly celebration offers something for everyone.

Festive cookie swap – Community members are invited to bring a batch of their favorite cookies to share. Drop off two or four dozen cookies and a recipe card between 2-3 p.m., then return to pick up a beautifully mixed box of treats between 4–4:30 p.m. Bakers may sign up in advance at www.nextstagearts.org.

Luminaria-bag decorating – From 2–3 p.m., participants of all ages can decorate luminaria bags that will line the outdoor walkway, adding warmth, artistry, and light to the solstice season.

Holiday community singalong – Join musician Rich Grumbine on guitar from 3-4:30 p.m., for a lively and heartwarming community sing. Attendees can sing from a 60-song holiday songbook featuring traditional classics, secular tunes, and songs for kids. Lyrics will be projected on the main theater screen, making it easy for everyone to raise their voices together.

“Winter Solstice is a perfect moment to gather, share traditions, and brighten the darkest day of the year,” says the Next Stage team. “We’re excited to welcome neighbors of all ages for cookies, music, and community connection.”

Warm refreshments, holiday cheer, and plenty of singing will fill the space as Next Stage marks the turning of the season.
