Next Stage to screen “The Equivalent Lands”

PUTNEY, Vt. – Join the Putney Historical Society to watch a showing of a 2004 filmed performance of the play “The Equivalent Lands” by Joe Greenhoe, at Next Stage, on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. A brief introduction to the play by cast members Jim Bombicino, Jenny Holan, and Mark Brown will provide some context to the play.

The play, written for the 1976 Bicentennial celebration, depicts life on the northern frontier as settlers moved into what is now southern Vermont during the 18th century land disputes between New Hampshire and New York. The story takes place in Putney, Dummerston, and Westminster, where conflicts between supporters of the king of England and those working toward independent governance played out in the years and months prior to the battles of Lexington and Concord. Those conflicts pitted neighbors against each other. Ancestors of some of the characters in the play still live in the area.

Admission is by suggested donation. Proceeds will go toward the Putney Historical Society. Next Stage is located at 15 Kimball Hill in downtown Putney, Vt. For information, call 802-387-0102 or visit www.nextstagearts.org.
