SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – The Springfield Art and Historical Society (SAHS) and the Springfield Telescope Makers Inc. (Stellafane) are pleased to announce the grand opening of a new collaborative museum, dedicated to preserving and celebrating Springfield’s rich history of innovation, craftsmanship, science, and community heritage.
The new museum will be located in the historic Fellows Gear Shaper building in Springfield, adjacent to the Great Hall, and will serve as a unique destination showcasing the stories, artifacts, and achievements that have shaped Springfield; and Springfield’s contributions to both industry and amateur astronomy.
A grand-opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. Following the ceremony, attendees will be invited to tour the museum and explore its exhibits.
The partnership between SAHS and Stellafane brings together two organizations dedicated to preserving Springfield’s remarkable legacy. Through exhibits highlighting local history, manufacturing innovation, scientific achievement, and community culture, the museum aims to educate, inspire, and connect visitors of all ages.
“This museum represents an exciting new chapter in preserving Springfield’s story,” said Theo Avent, SAHS president. “By bringing together the historical collections and expertise of SAHS with the unique heritage of Stellafane, we are creating a space where residents and visitors alike can discover the people, ideas, and accomplishments that have made Springfield a special place.”
The museum’s location within the Fellows Gear Shaper building further strengthens its connection to Springfield’s industrial heritage, providing an ideal setting to showcase the community’s history of innovation and craftsmanship.
Residents of Springfield and visitors from across the region are warmly invited to attend the grand opening festivities and experience the new museum firsthand.
