BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – Filmmaker Andrea Sadler will help the Friends of the Rockingham Free Public Library in Bellows Falls celebrate Native American Heritage Month when she presents her 55-minute documentary “The Sacred Run, the lotus and the feather,” on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 12-1:30 p.m., at the Rockingham Free Public Library, 65 Westminster Street, Bellows Falls.
The film traces the 1995 ceremonial run by indigenous peoples of the Americas, Japan, and 14 countries, carrying the message “All Life Is Sacred.” Their journey concluded in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, marking the 50th anniversary of the atomic bombings.
Manna Jo Greene, the founder of Hudson Valley Sustainable Communities Network, describes the film, saying, “‘The Sacred Run’ weaves together the feather of ancient Native American wisdom with the lotus of Buddhism and indigenous Japanese traditions, showing that all people are one at heart – that we can be united in community, while honoring diversity. It is a powerful call for peace and justice.”
A native of Ontario, Canada, world-traveling filmmaker Sadler is an activist for peace, social justice, and the environment. Over the years since she participated in the Sacred Run, she has hosted and joined many other peace walks. Besides her filmmaking and work as a transformational coach, she acts in theater, film, and television. No matter what the medium, Sadler explores balancing spirit through the heart. “I am passionate about consciousness,” she explains. “How do we live on the earth in a balanced way with respect for all life? I’d like to inspire us towards awareness of life that flows through everything. This film is very close to my heart and soul.”
This Friends of the Library sponsored event is free and open to all.
