SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – The Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Vermont Division of Historic Preservation, is pleased to announce the seasonal opening of the Eureka
Schoolhouse and the Baltimore Covered Bridge.
An opening celebration will be held on Saturday, May 16, from 2-5 p.m., at the schoolhouse, located at the intersection of Charlestown Road and Perley Gordon Road in Springfield.
The public is invited to attend the opening festivities, meet neighbors, explore the historic grounds, and walk across the historic Baltimore Covered Bridge. Guests will enjoy light refreshments, live music by the Stringfield Springers, and immersive displays and experiences presented by the Springfield Art and Historical Society.
The Eureka Schoolhouse stands as the oldest one-room schoolhouse in Vermont and is among the few surviving 18th-century public buildings in the state. Originally constructed around 1790 to serve Springfield’s first village settlement, the schoolhouse was reconstructed at its current location in 1968. The site is maintained by the Vermont Division of Historic Preservation and managed by the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The schoolhouse is open to the public by reservation through the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce.
