SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Individuals seeking mental health or substance use services in southeastern Vermont can now access care more quickly through Health Care and Rehabilitation Services’ (HCRS) new Same Day Access program. As part of its transition to becoming a Certified Community Based Integrated Health Center (CCBHC), HCRS has expanded appointment availability, streamlined the process of entering care, and significantly reduced delays that have historically made it difficult for people to access their services.
HCRS’ state certification as a Certified Community Based Integrated Health Center took effect on July 1. The CCBHC model is designed to improve access, quality, and coordination of care while strengthening connections between mental health, substance use, physical health, and community-based services.
One of the most significant enhancements is the launch of Same Day Access, allowing individuals seeking mental health or substance use services to connect with care through designated walk-in hours, available both in person and virtually. Rather than waiting days or weeks for an initial appointment, individuals can now begin connecting with services the same day they reach out.
In just the first four weeks following implementation, more than 100 individuals have already accessed services through Same Day Access, demonstrating both the community’s need for timely mental health and substance use care, and the success of the new model.
“When someone decides to ask for help, that’s a moment we can’t afford to miss,” said HCRS CEO Anne Bilodeau. “These changes are about meeting people when they’re ready. We want the path into care to be simple, welcoming, and immediate so individuals and families can begin receiving support without unnecessary barriers.”
Together, these improvements have expanded appointment availability, simplified the process of entering care, and significantly reduced delays through walk-in access, same-day assessments, and improved scheduling systems.
For someone experiencing anxiety, depression, substance use concerns, or other mental health challenges, these changes mean they can seek help when they’re ready. HCRS now offers Same Day Access at its regional offices in Hartford, Springfield, and Brattleboro. Walk-in hours are Tuesdays, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Wednesdays, from 1-3 p.m.; and Thursdays, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
